Umu-Gani Time
Opening Sequence to a potential cartoon
This animation was part of a collaborative school project for clients Wajenzi Productions and Tiny Giants, aimed at developing an opening sequence for a potential animated series targeted toward Western audiences. The show, Umu-Gani Time, follows two siblings who dive into magical adventures inspired by the stories their uncle shares upon returning from his travels across Africa. Each episode was imagined to highlight a different African culture through storytelling, character design, and visual themes.

Team Goal
Overview
Our team was responsible for concept development, character design, storyboarding, and animation. The goal was to create an engaging and culturally respectful introduction that would excite a younger audience while subtly introducing them to the diversity and richness of African traditions. We focused on warm, energetic visuals, rhythmic transitions, and playful pacing to reflect the tone of the series.

My Role
Overview
I contributed to the visual development and character design, working closely with the team to shape the look and feel of the sequence while keeping the cultural focus and narrative flow at the center of our decisions. The final animation serves as a vibrant, inviting intro that hints at the adventures and cultural depth to come.

concept work
Explanation
To ensure visual consistency, I first created a moodboard to define the overall feel of the animation — warm, playful, and culturally rich. Based on that, I developed a series of style guides for the team: one for the character designs, one for the fictional storybook world, and one for the real world where Mathias and Silvie live. These guides helped align our visual direction and kept the transitions between worlds clear and cohesive.

Explanation
This video showcases our iterative design process, presenting three different fidelity prototypes leading up to the final product. Working within the Scrum framework, we delivered incremental versions throughout the project, allowing for continuous feedback and refinement. Each prototype iteration reflects our commitment to better design and agile development, culminating in a polished final video that meets the project's objectives.
